Subdivision Tutorial

What is subdivision?
Subdivision is a fractal-based method that models smooth geometry from a coarse control shape. Subdivision has proved to be a powerful yet convenient modeling tool in many graphics applications, such as computer games and movies. The chess board and pieces in the following picture are modeled using subdivision meshes. (Figure made by Scott Schaefer.) More pictures can be found at here.
